Social media squabble leads to shooting, murder in Mercer County

BLUEFIELD DAILY TELEGRAPH

BRUSHFORK — A suspect in the murder of a woman who was found Thursday night at the intersection of Route 123 and Nichols Road is now being arraigned before a Mercer County Circuit Court judge.

Elizabeth Slagle, 42, of Bluefield was shot after an argument and exchange of text messages, said Sgt. D.W. Miller, detachment commander of the West Virginia State Police detachment near Princeton. Trooper J.C. Teubert is in charge of the investigation.

“Some kids got into an argument on a school bus and it spilled over from there,” Miller said.

Text messages were exchanged between the students’ parents, he said.

Judith Kowaleski, 42, of Bluefield has been charged with first-degree murder, Miller said.

The suspect is being arraigned before Judge Omar Aboulhosn. Aboulhosn ordered Kowaleski to be held without bond.
