Coal City woman shot, killed by State Police

State Police say woman had threatened suicide before pointing rifle at officers

From Staff Reports

COAL CITY — West Virginia State Police shot and killed a Coal City woman Thursday night after she threatened suicide then pointed a rifle at officers.

First Sgt. Michael Baylous said officers responded to a call shortly before 7 p.m. at 1501 Coal City Road in Coal City.

Upon arriving, Baylous said officers attempted to speak with Lisa Renee Miller, 47, who was threatening to commit suicide.

Miller, according to Baylous, became agitated at some point, threw a phone down and spun around with a rifle pointed at officers.

She was shot once and killed by an officer who has not been identified at this time.
