A local Class A matchup highlights the area’s first-round prep football playoff games, according to final seedings posted on the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission website.
Greenbrier West (9-1) finished rated No. 6 and will host No. 11 Meadow Bridge (7-3) in the first round. The schools are separated by just 16 miles on Route 20.
Also, No. 9 Valley (8-2) will visit No. 8 Clay-Battelle (9-1).
In Class AAA, Woodrow Wilson (6-4) qualified for the postseason for the second straight year at No. 15. And, for the second consecutive season, the Flying Eagles will have to travel to Martinsburg (9-1). The two-time defending state champion Bulldogs are No. 2.
Oak Hill (7-3), meanwhile, eked in at No. 16. The Red Devils, in their first year at the triple-A level, finished with a rating of 9.00, edging out Logan (8.90).
The Devils will go to No. 1 Cabell Midland (10-0).
In Class AA, Nicholas County (6-3) wound up ninth and will visit No. 8 Ritchie County. The Grizzlies were unable to play their season finale against Richwood because of the effects of the severe weather that hit the area early last week.
No. 5 Bluefield (8-2) will host No. 12 Roane County (6-4), No. 10 Wyoming East (7-3) will play at No. 7 Scott (7-3), No. 11 Summers County (7-3) will go to No. 6 Frankfort (8-2) for its first playoff trip since 1997 and No. 14 River View (6-4) has a date at No. 3 Bridgeport (7-2).
