White wins 11th District race

FAYETTEVILLE, WV — When the last precincts were finally tallied in Fayette County early Wednesday, the only thing that changed were the numbers.

Sen. Randy White nearly doubled the lead he held earlier over Republican challenger Harold “Pete” Sigler in their 11th District race.

With all 118 precincts reporting, White claimed a lead of 12,870 (53 percent) to 11,589 (47 percent) for Sigler. Only hours earlier, when Fayette County was still tabulating the last two precincts, White’s advantage was less than 700.

Sigler, a Summersville resident, enjoyed his best numbers in Nicholas and Upshur counties, which account for 28 and 26 precincts, respectively.

White, who lives in Webster Springs, bested his opponent in Webster County and eked out a seven-vote victory in Clay County’s 13 precincts.

In the four-person race for the House of Delegates in the 29th District, newcomer Margaret Anne Staggers led the ticket over incumbents John Pino and Dave Perry and Republican challenger Betty Lilly.

Staggers’ margin of 205 votes over Perry gave the Fayetteville emergency physician 30 percent of the vote.

Her total was 7,394 votes to Perry’s 7,189 (29 percent) and Pino’s 7,093 (also 29 percent). Lilly garnered 3,032 votes (12 percent).

The 29th District also includes one precinct from Nicholas County. All four candidates reside in Fayette County.
