Roundup: KIAC honors two MSU players; Lynch tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Mountain State University players received weekly volleyball awards from the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Jennifer Sloan, a 5-foot-5 senior from Beckley, is the KIAC Libero of the Week. She recorded 46 digs and three aces in the Cougars’ match last week with Emory & Henry.
Sloan, the NAIA dig leader, has 30 or more n six of the 10 matches she’s played in. She’s had over 40 digs three times.
Jessica Green, a 5-10 junior middle hitter from DuQuoin, Ill, was named Setter of the Week. In one match last week she had 10 kills, 28 assists and 27 digs.
Green is third in the conference in assists and ranks in the top 10 on aces, blocks, and digs.
Indiana University Southeast’s Teri Hollinden was the KIAC Player of the Week. The 5-10 sophomore outside hitter had a 12-kill, 33-dig performance in a match against Ursline College.

Kelly Lynch memorial tournament this Saturday
The Kelly Lynch Memorial Scholarship Fund golf tournament will be held this Saturday at Beaver Creek Golf Club. Golfer should register no later than 9:30 a.m., and the event will tee off at 10 a.m.
The scholarship fund has honored the memory of Kelly Lynch since his passing in 1996. The fund provides scholarships to young people from the Beckley/Raleigh County areas.
The format for the two-person, 27-hole event will be nine holes captain’s choice, nine holes alternate shot and nine holes stroke play. Entry fee is $50 per player and includes golf, cart, food and soft drinks.
There will be prizes for first- and second-place teams and senior division teams. Free soft drinks and food buffet will be provided.
Prizes are also up for grabs for closest-to-the-pin on four par-3 holes.
