RGH to host community outreach, ‘After Hours’

Raleigh General Hospital is hosting community outreach and Business After Hours events on Thursday, according to hospital officials.

The “Heart To Heart” community outreach event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Tamarack’s grand ballroom, according to RGH marketing director Kevin McGraw.

“February is Heart Healthy Month and this event is part of promoting healthy life-styles,” McGraw said.

The event is open to the public and consists of a YMCA fitness presentation and programs on healthy diet and healthy heart with the hospital’s nutritional services team, according to McGraw.

“There will also be health cooking demonstrations,” he added.

The event will feature “cardiac combo” screenings, McGraw said.

“This includes blood pressure, blood sugar and a certificate for a free Lipid Panel.”

The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. will include an iron chef-type of cooking demonstration featuring RGH executive chef, Kris Siuta and Tamarack executive chef Jaime Henderson.

Free copies of the AHA’s Go Red For Women cookbook, information on smoking cessation and free pedometers to promote walking will be among numerous giveaways.
