Ready … set … bloom. Glen Blankenship of Beckley and wife Nellie examine the first blossom of the season from a Christmas cactus that has grown through at least 71 years of holiday celebrations. The cactus was given to him by his grandmother when he was just 8 years old. The Blankenships say the flowers usually appear around Thanksgiving and bloom continuously through May.
