This dam and roadway, surrounding Mallard Lake at The Resort at Glade Springs, is the subject of an order by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, saying they must be raised approximately 40 feet. If the order isn’t modified, the Property Owners Association would have to pay $9.2 million and construction would close the entrance road for 24 months. Jim Justice, owner of the resort, says the WVDEP claims that if the area were to get 27.5 inches of rain in six hours and the water overtops the road, a vehicle could be in harm’s way.
