Former state trooper Tim Boothe tells reporters that pending cap-and-trade legislation, now before the U.S. Senate, could gut West Virginia’s economy by wiping out the coal industry. A new group known as Southern West Virginians for Coal is urging residents to pressure the Senate into killing the bill, aimed at further reducing greenhouse emissions to counter what proponents consider a warming of the planet. With Boothe, from left, are Greg Thomas of Charleston, coal miner Jeffrey Pack of Cool Ridge and Jack Fincham of Brenton.
