The Rev. Jon M. White, right, blesses Coco, a Maltese-breed canine, being held by her owner, Clara Lively, 8, during the annual Blessing of the Animals, celebrated Sunday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Beckley. “Animals provide companionship and love, sometimes to people who are alone, and become members of our family,” White said, adding that people were invited to “bring their dogs, cats, iguanas — whatever animal they have that gives them joy in life.”
