A radar unit hauled in by DeTect Inc., of Panama City, Fla., enabled the Raleigh County Memorial Airport to run a successful experiment for a proposed virtual tower, driven by computers. The system could prove revolutionary. Leading the trial run, from left, were DeTect’s project manager, Shane Brister, Airport Manager Tom Cochran, and Dr. David Byers, senior development professional for Quadrex Aviation, the Melbourne, Fla., firm under contract with the Raleigh County Airport Authority to conduct the $50,000 research.
