Oak Hill officer shot during routine traffic stop

Law enforcement authorities in Fayette County have shutdown a section of W.Va. 61 bordering the city limits of Oak Hill and are conducting a manhunt after a city police officer was shot early Thursday morning during a routine traffic stop.

The officer was taken to Plateau Medical Center for treatment and his injuries were not considered to be life threatening. Authorities say the bullet proof vest he was wearing likely saved his life.

Authorities are looking for a black male, driving a black Cadillac bearing Ohio license plates.

West Virginia State Police, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and Oak Hill City Police are investigating the incident which took place at approximately 4:45 a.m.
