Angel, who weighed in at 14 pounds, is about 7 pounds overweight for her breed. In an effort to inspire pet owners to help ensure their pets maintain a healthy weight, Nimitz veterinarian Dr. Connie Hyler-Both and her staff at New River Animal Hospital are sponsoring a biggest loser pet contest. Evaluations and weigh-ins of prospective participants begin Monday with dogs and continue Tuesday for cats. The contest will last for three months, and the grand prize winner will take home a basket of items valued at more than $200. Second-place winners will receive, among other things, a $50 gas card.
