post office

Susan Warden, a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, sorts through a bunch of mail at the Beckley Post Office last Christmas. The Postal Service continues to see a steady decline in first-class mail volume, according to USPS officials. They say that postage prices will continue to increase and mailing industry jobs will be eliminated unless the Postal Service can take the necessary steps to reduce its operating costs. The Postal Service’s consolidation plan is being opposed by the American Postal Workers Union, which has selected Oct. 26 for a nationwide day of picketing.
