Liberty High School teacher Everett Jeremy Rodriguez, center, looks at a large check facsimile, representing a $10,000 grant he won for the school’s music department in the Great American Teach-Off, sponsored by GOOD and the University of Phoenix-College of Education. Rodriguez, who teaches music and theater, is flanked by band members Bobby Davis, from left, Frank Treadway, Joshua Smith and Emily Smith. Over the past six weeks, public votes were submitted to determine one winner out of 20 finalists across the nation for the grant. “I wish I could say it’s about me, but it’s about you and the community we live in,” he said to a student assembly. “Everyone got online and supported us. Thank you so much. We’re going to do some really cool stuff here.”
